    Speaking of a well versed grappler it reminds me of Kevin Lloyd. He is trained in Japanese jujitsu, bjj, catch wrestling, and freestyle wrestling. He had competed in bjj, catch wrestling, and freestyle wrestling. And just like sakuraba he is also a pro wrestler.

    I kinda disagree with you. I think there is room for a sport that focuses on submissions, but also staying off your back. I think its something that is meaningfully different as a competition, and allows for slightly different tactics/strategies because being on your back would be in danger. No, that doesn't really "square up" with usefulness to mma, but I'm kinda tired of every "combat sport" not being a sport for their own sake, but instead they exist to make mma bigger. With that said, grappling is grappling, and I agree with you that catch wrestling will never be this huge force.
